Going to Grandma's

It's Spring Break - yeah!!! We REALLY needed a break in this house! March has quite possibly been the busiest month of our family's life. :) It makes it a lot more hectic when mom is working and isn't at home to help things run smoothly there. This is the first time I've been really busy at work and it's kept me away from home but it's been lots of fun!

We started off Spring Break with a trip to grandma's house. My mom's mom lives in Westminster, SC. We don't get to see her nearly as often as we'd like, so the kids really think it's a treat to go to her house - and spending the night is a big event!

We went to church with grandma on Sunday night and the kids sat through the service like they do it all the time - even though I don't think I've ever kept them in a service with me! Ella Kate fell asleep after about 2 minutes so she couldn't help but be well behaved! Jake did very well and sat through his first Lord's Supper/5th Sunday night singing. He tried to sing with every single person that sang a solo....except he didn't know any of the words! Grandma tried to explain the purpose of the Lord's Supper before we went, but Jake was still upset that "everyone" got grape juice except him!

We spent lots of time playing at grandma's (inside and in the yard!).
Jake was very disturbed by the fact that the girl's room (grandma's) was blue and the room he was supposed to sleep in (and that the other boy grandchildren sleep in) was pink. It just didn't seem right to him. So....good grandma that she is, she made his bed up in blue sheets just to make him feel better! The kids loved having their own room and mom loved not having to sleep with feet in her sides while being pushed off the bed!
Today, we went to visit Papa Baker's grave. Jake was 10 months old when Papa passed away and the only memory he has of him is a picture taken of the 2 of them when Jake was a week old. Needless to say, they have always been confused about who "papa baker" is and where grandma's "daddy" is. I thought it would be very helpful to take them to visit Papa's grave. They totally understood that Papa is now in heaven with Jesus and have been talking about their Papa Baker ever since. I think it really helped them!

They were also thrilled to discover that JESUS was buried at the same place that Papa is!!!! ;)
This monument was in the middle of the graves so they thought that meant that Jesus was underneath it. We reminded them that Jesus rose from his grave and is alive in heaven waiting for us. Now they feel sure that before he rose, he was buried beside papa. :)
We had a great visit with grandma and the kids left her with lots of loving until we see her again!!

Big Day Tomorrow!

Last spring, I asked our ELC Director if she wanted to hold a consignment sale to benefit the ELC. She hesitated a moment and said that she thought it was a great idea, but she just didn't have the time to organize one. I assured her that I meant I would do all the work so she happily agreed!

I recruited a friend and we started planning. No big deal.

The week to take in clothes came and we recruited another friend. Still manageable.

The sale came and went and we handed them a nice little check to add to their funds.

The 3 of us loved it enough to organize a Fall '08 Sale and we handed them a slightly larger check.

Wow - and here we are today.....Spring '09 and we're raising money for a new playground!

We have had the help of one more super awesome friend this sale, and we are so, so excited to open to the public tomorrow! Come out and see us:

Thursday, March 19 9-1 Free coffee and doughnuts! or 3-8

Friday, March 20 3-8

Saturday, March 21 8-12 Half Off Sale!

We'd love to see you there!

Mention you heard about it on my blog and I'll......be very excited! :)

Skate Night

Tonight was Skate Night at church for AWANA. Although we don't go to AWANA, we did get in on the skating! Jake used "real" skates for the first time tonight. He liked the thought of them being the real thing. Ella Kate lucked up and got the pink Barbie kid skates - she was happy all night long! Notice a common theme throughout the pictures...Michael and I holding up falling children all night!! :)

Ella Kate and Briley Jane were buddies all night!
This is the "my daddy was a good daddy and took me to dancing tonight so that's why my hair looks so good and my clothes are great" look. ;)

Everybody hold your kids up for the hokey-pokey!

Directv

Okay, so I don't know about you, but I just get irritated every month when our satellite bill comes in the mail. I mean, we pay $69 a month to watch tv!! I know, we could watch it for free, but they really know how to get you between the sports channels, the cartoon channels, and the Lifetime movies! And on top of that, their rates went up AGAIN this month!!

So I got a little tired of it all and called to tell them I wanted to cancel my account. I am still in my 24 month contract (which I'm not sure how I ended up in) so they said they would transfer me to their "disconnect department". He asked why I wanted to cancel and I told him it was too expensive. He immediately offered me $10 off and I said that wasn't enough. He quickly offered me $10 more. I thought $20 wasn't half bad so I took it and ran! Who knows - I might have gotten more but that had my package down to $33 and that's their "new customer" deal right now.

Just thought there might be some more cheapos out there who might like a better deal. Just tell them you want to cancel, and they'll hand you one!! Anybody know how to get my other bills down now? ;)

What a Week

As I sit here and write this, my sweet husband is in the other room giving our precious dears their second bath of the day (I know! I'm about to go help!). The second one he has given, might I add. And he's not complaining.

My sweet friends are out right now doing their own chores and celebrating their own family birthdays because they have been helping out a friend and the church they love.

I am so blessed. I am blessed with friends that care so much that they always come when they're called. I am blessed with a husband that cares so much he gives the baths (again) and takes care of the kids until at least 9 every night so that I can get ready for this special day. I am blessed with coworkers who give so much and expect nothing in return. And I am blessed with a wonderful church family who are all anxiously awaiting this day!

Tomorrow our church opens its new facility. It's been a lot of work and I know that I speak for a lot of people when I say that. So many giving people have been hard at work for several weeks now preparing for this day. I don't think any of us anticipated what a job it would be!! We're all going to need a good vacation! ;)

It will all be worth it tomorrow when the children and adults start pouring in the doors and everything is ready for them. There will be problems - no one could anticipate all that would happen - but we are well prepared and it will be wonderful!!

Thank you to each one of you who has given your time and your energy to make this happen! You are appreciated more than words can express!! See you tomorrow!

Oh MAN Did It Snow!

Wow!! What a snow!! We'll remember this one for several years - they don't come often around here! It is so much fun to see everyone completely stop and enjoy the day. The kids were thrilled - they've never seen this much snow on the ground. I think the last time we had near this amount was the year Jake was born - winter 03/o4.

These were last night - I was afraid it would stop and melt before morning - yea right!! Not a chance!!

Early this morning - mom slept in but the kids were ready to go outside!!
I promise this is my 78 year old Granny Neal having a snowball fight with Jake!! Jake surprised her with a snowball so she retaliated!!
Our second snowman of the day at Granny Neal's house.

What do country boys do when it snows? Ride those 4 wheelers of course!!

Jake LOVED the snow!!

Ella Kate....not so much.

Our first snowman of the day at Nana's house! Uncle Gary helped Jake and I with this one!

Lessons from Mommyhood

I've been trying to join in on my friend Kim's meme for some time now, but I never seem to be able to come up with a significant lesson. So, in keeping with my last post, I have my lesson from mommyhood. :)

Kids do grow up. Those little bundles do learn to walk and talk and soon are old enough to DROP OFF and LEAVE at school!! It's sad but also amazing....I always thought I would break them or "mess them up" by now!! :) I really did have days when they were babies or very small that I would be so nervous about doing something wrong that I would worry they would be "unfixable" afterwards. Not doing it right was a serious fear of mine - of course, I have that fear with most things I do!

Well guess what....it's pretty hard to do...if you love them and try your very best that is! :) I'm sure I've messed up more than my share, but my babies are 5 1/2 and almost 4 and STILL BREATHING! I passed!! :)

Go to Kim's Blog and join in on her fun!

Kindergarten Registration

On the Friday before Valentine's Day, Michael and I took our firstborn to register for kindergarten. Let me tell you, it was traumatic for me. And as my mom said perfectly...."for it to be such a big deal, they sure don't make it a big deal at all." I was waiting for the ceremony to begin. You know, mom's ceremony. Balloons, music, something - this is big.

But seriously, it was big for me but I know it happens every year. Babies go off to school and from then on out, it's just routine. It was hard for me to take them to preschool too. Not because I was parting with them, but because it sounded big....school!

I'm over it now but I'm sure when August comes (and we can't take our annual beach trip in September when rates are so much cheaper and all the crazy kids aren't there), I'll be sitting in my car crying as he is sitting in class missing his mommy. I mean, enjoying himself thoroughly. :)
