More Basketball....

Here are some pics from this weekend's basketball game....

Jake scored AGAIN, and his mom missed it AGAIN! I missed his very first one last weekend while we were in Gatlinburg. My mom took him so at least she was able to cheer him on!

Michael said I was "dealing" with Ella Kate when he made his basket this week.

He's looking at me right after he did something memorable (just can't remember what that was!) to make sure I was watching!

Waddell Weekend

We started the weekend with a trip to Woodruff (by Michael) to remember one of the greats, Coach Varner. If you're from Woodruff, and possibly if you're not, you know who he is. Long-time coach at the high school, setting many football records. I think anyone who had contact with him remembered him well.

I remember him as pretty much a scary dude - you never wanted your name called by Coach Varner to meet him at the side door of the office. Not a good sign. But I do remember once having to meet with him about a cheerleading issue and him being the kindest man. His tone was gentle when he was one on one with a very frightened young lady!!

My dad had a special relationship with Coach Varner. He spent many hours in his office getting acquainted with his large paddle. Yes, daddy, I told your secret.

Michael played football for Coach Varner and loved every minute of it. He talks about him frequently when discussing football and everything is compared to "If Coach Varner had been coach...." He really admired him.

He will be missed by many but I know his memory will long outlive him.

Friday night, Michael went to the Dorman basketball game and wrestling match while I helped make plans for our SPRING CONSIGNMENT SALE!!! (More details to's going to be great!!)

Saturday, Jake had his usual basketball game, this week with team pictures. Afterwards, we started the party-marathon it seemed!! Jake had one and Ella Kate had one, back to back. They both had a great time with their school buddies!!

Sunday, we had yet another party for Jake's classmate and the boys had a great time!!

After a very nice (and entertaining) dinner with friends (complete with losing our kids in the restaurant, some big ole' spills, and the usual all-out meltdowns over who sits where), I am ready to find my cozy, HOT blanket. I will get around to changing this horrid background and font color this week...promise. :)

Funky Mood

My very calm, peaceful snow page was really boring me today. I'm just not in a zen kind of mood....not that I'd know a zen mood if I was in one.

I just can't find any backgrounds that suit me. Either they're aren't me or I know 10 other bloggers that already have them. I really want something Valentinesy but I'm not much on the ones they currently have. Maybe they'll put some more out as it gets closer.

So, I'll leave you with this funky page until I find the time to change it.

It's not so bad....just a little bright...and none of my font colors match... ;)

Blog-life will go on.

A Southern Snow

I think only here in the south would this be considered a snow day. I hear other parts of the Upstate got a little more...Stacy got a little more in Boiling Springs...but I still wish we had about a foot! Jake told me earlier, while we watched snow fall in Raleigh, NC on tv, that he was sad that God gave all our snow to them. Me too, bud.

That didn't stop their enthusiasm as they bundled up to go outside and play. It was shortlived though, as they discovered it was extremely cold and really not that exciting. :)

Making Memories

We had the best time this weekend!

A while back, the Harrisons asked us if we'd like to join them in Gatlinburg in January. We weren't sure if we'd all be able to line up sitters, but I'm so glad we did! No kids = a much needed break!!

Gatlinburg wasn't very crowded when we arrived on Thursday. By Saturday there were more people there, but it was definitely the least crowded I have ever seen it. It was also VERY, VERY cold!! It was hard to even walk outside for long!

Thursday night we got a bite to eat and then went back to the cabin for some game time - puzzles for the ladies, Wii for them men!

Friday we went to a place called Adventure Quest in Pigeon Forge. They had a mirror maze that we didn't really think would be that great, but it turned out to be so much fun!! It was really long and actually was kind of difficult. You had to put on plastic gloves to go in, which seemed strange to us in the beginning, but after going through, we knew why!! You couldn't walk without putting your hands out and touching the mirrors! We also played a game of putt-putt there and a laser course where you dodge the beams and they time you. I'd definitely recommend this place - all of this was only $15 per person!
We stopped at the Skydiving place afterwards where Brandon debated on trying it, but decided against it. We watched some others fly around in this strange tunnel inside the building. There was a hallway swirling around it that went all the way to the top and we peeped through the windows into the tunnel. It looked fun but also kind of scary!

We headed back to Gatlinburg to walk the streets and do a little shopping. Michael and I really wanted some peanut butter fudge!! About 2 seconds out of the car, we were doubting whether this was a good idea!! It was so, so cold!!! We had to stop in every other store just to keep from freezing! When we found this, we knew it was time to head home!!

After dinner at Bennett's BBQ, we went back to the cabin for some Catch Phrase!!Friday we headed to the outlets for most of the afternoon to shop our hearts out! It's much easier when you have no kids to take care of! We then went to find Sum M some taffy to pick out of a bucket :), and to play a game of laser tag. After dinner at TGIFriday's we headed home to play Phase 10 and watch the new Batman movie.Sunday we headed home, but not before we stopped by the Apple Barn for breakfast and some shopping! What a great weekend...thanks Brad & Tracy for inviting us!!! We'll have to do it again!

Happy 29th...and holding!

There are some things in life that just make it a little sweeter. I think of them as God's little gifts to me. Sharing my birthday with my Papa is one of those.

Happy 78th Birthday Papa! I Love You!!

What a day!! I am blessed with incredible friends and family that went out of their way to say "Have a Great Day!!" Before 8am I had 2 blog posts to me, a text message, and so many emails!!! When I walked into work, I had balloons and gifts on the table! And I was even treated to lunch! Wow, I feel loved!! Thank you guys so much. I really cannot say how much you touched my heart today!

I really did have a great day. Birthdays are big on my list. It's the one day that belongs to me. And the day my dad takes us all out to eat! ;) "Rice Man" it was tonight...the one that cooks on your table, that is. Jake got to pick, but only because I knew that's what he'd say. It's my favorite too! But I have to add that if you're heading to Shogun, don't even think about taking something in for your picky little 3 year old to eat. I was almost chased out of the restaurant by this little Japanese lady!! She let me stay but I think it was only after she calculated the difference in the $5 she lost on Ella Kate and the $150 she would lose on the rest of us!! She even made me pour Ella's drink out of the McDonald's cup into a plain styrofoam one "so no one will recognize the logo!!" Yea, because when I'm going out for Japanese and I pass McDonalds, it's AWFULLY tempting to stop there instead!! :)

So, anyway, great dinner with a "rice cake" and all!
For my birthday, Jake told me that he planned to buy me a new van. What a son!! Because we had test drove one like his teacher's a few months back, he thought he'd just ask her if we could have hers. I'm sure she'd love to trade her nice new van for our much older version!! :)
Ella Kate wanted me to have a princess birthday cake. Mom helped to grant her wish!

And look what I put my new clothes on! :) Plus some well loved cash!

The old folks!

And some exciting cousin, Marcie, is in labor as we speak. I so hope this baby gets here before midnight!!! Go, Marcie, Go!!! I'll let you know tomorrow when she arrives!
I'm off to complete my perfect day with a perfect rest in my pre-warming bed! :)

Photo Tag...You're It!

My sweet friend Stacy tagged me (well, not technically, I think she tagged whoever wanted to play!!) at this game of Photo Tag and it looked like fun!!
Here are the rules:

1. Go to your 4th picture folder

2. Use the 4th picture in the folder

3. Tell us about your picture!

4. Pass it on!

Here is the 4th in my 4th...

He, he, he!

This is Ella Kate at Jake's basketball game on Saturday. She entertained herself by drawing pictures of our family. Couldn't you tell?? :)

From L to R: Jake, Daddy, Mommy, and Ella Kate (she's tiny because she's a baby ya know!!) I can't remember what that thing on top of her head is.

I think we all closely resemble jellyfish but that's just my opinion.

She usually draws a little circle on our face for our chin. My dad taught her that.

Quite the little artist!!

Jake's First Basketball Game

Jake had his first Upward Basketball game this Saturday morning. They practice for a little bit and then they play their game. He was so nervous!! He was afraid he wasn't going to be fast enough or be able to make a basket or they would run over him. The list went on and on.

Once he got there, he jumped right in and had a great time! I love that about Jake. He is not afraid to try. I was always afraid to try because I might not be good at it (whatever "it" may be - sports or otherwise!). He loves sports though and seems like he will be a pretty good athlete when he's older.

Check out my new basketball duds!

Consignment Update

Thank goodness!!

Apparently, there is a clause in the law that states that individuals or those holding intermittent sales can still carry on. Great, super, fabulous for us!!! But....not so great for Goodwill, consignment stores, etc. That's going to hurt a lot of businesses!

Just thought I'd let you know what I'd heard since my last post!!

Say Goodbye to Cheap Clothes!

Thanks to Kim, I learned today that consignment sales for children's clothing/items will be illegal as of February 10. I know, I know!! Outrage!! It is a new law congress has created to try to prevent the spread of children's items containing lead. I personally think this is taking it a little too far. I mean, the chances of my kids getting lead poisoning from their clothing is pretty small. Don't ya think? Has anyone ever HEARD of that happening? Toys may be up for discussion, but clothing?!

Here is the article on it that she read. And here is the actual copy of the law (not that I comprehend this language!). And it's not just SC, it's all states!

It's bad news for all consignment stores, Goodwill, and all homebased children's clothing, toy, and hairbow businesses. And now is when we need those savings!! There is still a chance they will amend it before February 10, but it's only a chance.

I'd love to hear if any of you have heard of this law and if you have a different interpretation of it. Perhaps some sales will go on, since it may be hard to enforce. I'd just hate to participate in illegal activities!

Perhaps it will be enforced as strictly as the law that says, "Every adult male must bring a rifle to church on Sunday in order to ward off Indian attacks." Oops, broke that one Sunday. :) Go here to read more of these silly laws!

I Am So Sorry!!!

Brian and Kimberly, I owe you an apology. I would be kind of irritated if I went for kids eat free and it wasn't really kids eat free. In fact, I did do that not too long ago and we weren't happy campers (the store turned out to be misinformed but that didn't help after we'd had to cancel our order and leave!).
So I want to publicly apologize and say that I have now checked each restaurant on my list so I won't feel bad anymore. :) As of today, they are all correct!
On a side note, I'm very thrilled that someone reads my list!! :)

Looking Back at 2008

Last year, Looking Back at 2007, I had only been blogging for a few months. This year, I'm proud to say that I've blogged the entire year of 2008! What memories I'll have for us and the kids!

What has happened in the lives of the Waddells in 2008?

On January 14, I (involuntarily) took the plunge and entered into my 30s. Much to my surprise, I survived!! :)

At the end of January, our church, Anderson Mill Road, broke ground on a new sanctuary and education facility. We've watched the building progress all year long and are almost ready to move in!

In March, we held our very first children's consignment sale for the Early Learning Center! Myself, Summer, and Summer worked many long hours to make this little dream a reality!! We raised some money for the school and held our 2nd sale again in the fall! We already have spring and fall sales on the calendar for 2009!

In late March, Michael was finally able to build a new storage building in the backyard to put all his manly things - and put my womanly thing in the garage!

On April 7, Ella Kate turned 3! She celebrated with a princess party with her girlfriends and a family party later on.

Later in April, my friends and I got to meet Jon & Kate at a church event in Greer!! We had lots of fun hanging out ALL day long to be first in line!

Perhaps the single most entertaining event of the year was on the evening of Ryanne's 30th birthday party.... You'll have to read here to get all the gory details, but I'll just tell you that a year later, I can still vividly remember them. At least it's funny to look back at now!!

In May, our oldest (and only) niece, Erica, graduated from Woodruff High School. It brought back memories to attend her graduation ceremony.

Jake made his debut in soccer and really enjoyed it!! Ms Summer and daddy were his coaches and his buddies Zachary, Brycen, Braeden, and Will were on his team.

Michael turned 34 on Cinco de Mayo!

Jake graduated from Ms. Sophie's 4 year old class at Anderson Mill Road ELC!

This summer we spent time at the pool with friends every Monday, at Movies in the Park once a month, and at VBS in June! All fun times with great friends!!

On July 12th, Jake turned 5!! We celebrated at home with a HUGE waterslide and all his friends!

On July 24th, Nana turned 60! We surprised her with a party at "Smoke on the Water".

We struggled all year long with Ella Kate's eating habits but this month in particular, they came to a head. We saw a nutritionist, but every change we made, narrowed her "approved foods" list even more. We're still struggling daily with this challenge!

In August, we spent a long weekend in Charleston with my family.

We held our second consignment sale.

The kids started back to school. Ella Kate started 3K in Ms. Misty's class and has loved being in her class! Jake started 4K in Ms. Leigh's class and has also loved her! Wait, you say, didn't he just graduate from 4K? Since his birthday is in July, we made the decision to start him one year later in school. We hope to give him a bigger advantage than a disadvantage being that he is a boy and was so young compared to others in his grade, in so many aspects. We have been extremely pleased with our decision. We have seen him really come out of his shell this year at school! September....what a busy month!! We started the month with a trip to Ocean Lakes with Michael's mom and stepdad. This may be the last year we can go after Labor Day - it's really nice that time of year!

We stopped at Riverbanks Zoo for our annual trip on the way back.

Back in the swing of things, Jake started football for his 2nd year with Daddy & Uncle Brad as his coaches. Ella Kate had a brief stint with cheerleading, but not really enough to say she did it!

Ella Kate began her first year of dance at Ms. Marie's.
Bobby turned 17... on the same day that my blog turned 1!!!

We also had a major victory in Ella's life - her first poop in the potty. I know, we wouldn't talk about it either, but it's significant when you're 3 1/2 and it's the first time!! We still haven't mastered it at almost 4 years, but we're working on it!

In October, Jake had his first dermabond experience - proudly achieved by falling off the kitchen counter!

Halloween was great fun with celebrations all month long!! Jake was Iron Man and Ella Kate was a kitty! In November, we returned to Florida State to watch them beat the Tigers!!
We spent Thanksgiving in Newberry with Michael's mom's family for the first time.

And December was all about time spent with family and good friends, making memories to last all year!!
We're thankful for a healthy and happy 2008 spent together and look forward to the fun that 2009 brings!!
