Tangles & Lipstick

Ella Kate saw me putting on lipstick today and asked if she could have some.

Why not! She even applied it herself.

She also sported her "tangles" today....

(One of those words that you'll all too soon forget they used.)

Here's to 11 years!!

Happy Anniversary Brad & Tracy!
We love, love, love you!!!
Happy 11 years...and many more!

Movies in the Park

Once a month at Barnet Park a local church is having free movies!

A friend invited us and Saturday night we all headed out for 'Evan Almighty'.

This church does it right....free movie on the big screen, free watermelon while you're hanging out waiting, free popcorn and cokes during the movie, and nice fellows coming around spraying you down with sunscreen all the while!

They also gave out gobs and gobs of gift certificates to local restaurants and stores. Wouldn't you know that our friend, Summer M, was the very first name they called!! She won a free dinner at The Flounder. Yeah Summer!!

The kids really enjoyed the waiting part...they threw the football, wrestled, danced, rolled in the grass, played in the neighbors' bubbles and in general had a great summer evening.

By the time the movie started at 9:00, yes 9:00, they were pretty pooped. It was still hard to get them sit down and watch. I think the movie was a little over their heads but they still enjoyed the overall "idea" of the movie...Noah's Ark.

We lasted until it was about 10 minutes from the end and then we all headed out to beat the crowds.

Overall a GREAT time in the park....we will definitely be back next month for Shrek 3!!

Check Summer L's blog for pictures...brilliant me forgot my camera!! :)

Happy Birthday Shedaisy!

Shedaisy - derived from the Navajo term "shi dayzhih" meaning "my (little) sister"

I have called my baby sister my Shedaisy for many, many years now - probably around 10 years since the days we were in high school.

I heard this word one day on the radio referring to the singing group that was popular back then, and they were explaining where they got their name.

Ah ha! I have one of those!

From then on out, she was my Shedaisy.

We've had our ups and our downs (like all sisters do), but she always has been and always will be my little sister. It is absolutely true that there is no one in this world like a sister.

And let me tell you....this is the last year of her 20s!!

Girl, you'd better make it good....like I know you're planning to!! She has some incredible things happening in her life this year. I cannot wait to celebrate them with her!

Kelly, you are beautiful and smart and have a wonderful heart.

I love you dearly and hope 29 is the best year of your life!!

(This picture is an inside joke/had to be there kind of thing. It will make me laugh until I cry until the day I die....this one's for you Kelly!!)

I'm Learning Mom!

I heard the tone...."Moooommm".....from the kitchen.

What was my child up to....

Before I could say a word, he exclaims (in a defensive tone), "But I'm just learning Mom!"

I couldn't even be mad. He had not asked me to fix him lunch. He just got everything he needed and prepared his own lunch. He decided it was time for him to learn to make his own sandwich. There is a light at the end of the "never ending servanthood" tunnel.

I have to say he did pretty good for the first time. :)

Yes, we always hang out in our underwear!

Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary Summer & Brandon!
We love you and are blessed to call you friends!

Cinderella

I am in love with this Steven Curtis Chapman song. I don't think it is new, but in light of his recent tragedy, it is the most touching song. He probably never dreamed this song would mean so much.

I guess part of the reason I love it so much is that I think about my little Cinder-Ella. She so loves her daddy and what a princess she is! It just makes my heart smile to imagine this song being about her and Michael.

'Cinderella'
She spins and she sways to whatever song plays,
Without a care in the world.
And I'm sittin' here wearin' the weight of the world on my shoulders.
It's been a long day and there's still work to do,
She's pulling at me saying "Dad I need you!
There's a ball at the castle and I've been invited and I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy, please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all to soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone
She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
She says "Dad, the prom is just one week away,
And I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy, please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all to soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone
She will be gone.
Well, she came home today
With a ring on her hand
Just glowin' and tellin' us all they had planned
She says "Dad, the wedding's still six months away but I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song, (even one song)
Cuz all to soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

Kids Eat Free

At about 3:30 today our power went out. Upon calling the power company, we learned that it could be around 6:30 until it was restored. At 4:00 it was getting warm. At 4:30 it was hot.

We decided to go to town. Yes, we call it going to town. We grew up in Woodruff and going to Spartanburg was a trip.

Recently, we have decided to try to spend less money eating out. Thus, I decided to give my trusty friends a call and find out where our money would be most wisely spent tonight.

Where are the "Kids Eat Free" deals on Monday?

Not a single one knew.

They suggested ones for most every other day of the week, but our power was out on Monday. Not Tuesdays at Dennys or Wednesdays at Firehouse. :)

So, I am going to create a list in my sidebar of where you should go each day for a free kids meal.

Please comment or email with your suggestions or even close to free deals.

We did find out tonight that at Pizza Inn in Greer kids are $1 off on Mon and Tues...although they are free on Tuesdays in Duncan. And I did discover that those glorious "Pizza Inn Free Kids Buffet" coupons that come in the Money Mailer....the one I received today has now been changed to 99 cents kids buffet PLUS 99 cent drink. Not too much of a deal... $2 and some change will buy a kids meal most anywhere!

Moms (and anyone else that takes notice) let us know about those deals!! You know we all love them!! I'll post them all to the right.

Is Your House Clean?

Well, don't ask me that question....but I am asking you!

Some of you know...some of you don't....that I clean houses on the side while the kids are at school. Good way to make some extra money in my "free" time. :)

I have an opening and would be grateful if you would spread the word to any friends you may have that are in need!

They can email or call me and I'll be glad to come out and give them a price.

Outrigger Island!

Yes! We are in church...and we appear to be dancing away!

We're really doing the motions to the theme song at the VBS Pep Rally.

It was a blast!! Jed did a great job leading the music!

Brynn, Jake, & Zachary wait for the fun to start...don't they look excited??

The kiddos learning the motions...

Stacy, Sum L, and Sum M doing...hmmm...not sure!

Go Summer, Go Summer, Go, Go, Go Summer!

Nana and the boys get their groove on!

Just call us the cheesy family in our matching shirts (and proud of it!)

Haley and Zoe doing the hula :)

Hot Hot Summer Days

Well, I guess it's not technically summer yet, but it sure does feel like it here!! We have had temperatures in the high 90s every day this week and today is over 100! Wow!

We've been keeping cool at the pool (thanks to Summer!). The kids have loved the pool and it's been so hot that we had no choice but to swim with them!

We are also starting VBS tonight at our church. Our theme is "Outrigger Island" like a lot of the Southern Baptist churches in our area. It's a Hawaiian theme so it will be lots of fun. They actually had a pig roasting outside church today for the "luau" tonight. Ew! I hope they'll have some PB&J for the rest of us. :)

Me and a couple of my friends are in charge of preschool crafts. We worked long and hard Friday night getting things ready! We have everything very organized and sorted by class and project.
Hopefully all will go well without too many mishaps....

The Bird has Passed

Our birdie has passed away. Jake and I went to find it just now and it was obviously dead. Ew! I won't post a picture. :)

Sick Bird

Tonight Michael and the kids found a bird sitting in our front yard. It wasn't moving and didn't move when they walked over to see it. It even let them pet it!!!
It wasn't visibly hurt so we couldn't tell exactly what was wrong with it. Michael moved it to the side of the yard where there are some trees. What do you do with a hurt bird?
We found a dead bird in our yard last week! Wonder what's going on with our yard....we have the dead bird disease!
Michael holding it in the shovel. See how calm?

VBS

This week our kids have been going to VBS at Michael's dad's church.

They have had a great time the past 2 nights.

They're sooo excited when we tell them we're getting ready to go to Bible School.

And my kids are hard to impress.

Thing is, shhh.....we drop them off!

I KNOW!!!! I have NEVER dropped my kids off at church and left.

I work with the preschoolers at our church on Wednesday and Sunday nights and you wouldn't believe the amount of kids that are dropped off at church. It just amazes me sometimes. I'd venture to say that over half of them are!

So, needless to say, I'm feeling a teency bit of guilt over this.

I AM working at our VBS next week I remind myself.

And I DO know their teachers and feel confident that they are taken good care of.

So why do I feel bad??

Regardless of our guilt, so far we have immensely enjoyed our 2 free hours at night.

We don't exactly have family lining up to keep our kids, so, unfortunately, time alone is a rare commodity.

All in all, our kids are having a great time learning about Jesus, and Michael and I are enjoying some much needed time together and a break from being parents. I think that's a good deal for everyone!

Go Play in the Street

Last night we ate dinner with our good friends, the Harrisons...who, by the way, can make some serious BBQ ribs!! I think they were as good as any restaurant I've been to...seriously!

Anyway, we had a great time hanging out with them and letting the kids play. The Harrisons live on a cul-de-sac street so the kids usually play out in the road riding bikes and throwing the balls. It was funny last night when Michael yelled to them, "Hey, get out of the yard (someone else's) and go play in the street!!" :)

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Does this mean your onions and potatoes are old?
I think they've still got a few good weeks left in them.
I don't think I've ever seen that much green stuff sprout from a onion. HA!
Maybe we should eat at home more often. :)
