Can I Give a Shout Out?

Hmmm....was that from the 80s or 90s? I'm not sure what the kids say these days but I wanted to say a great big HELLO to Julie, our music minister. I know that lots of people read my blog and I am just unaware of it. That's great! I love that people read about our lives. And it makes me so excited to hear someone comment that they are reading, even though I never knew it. So I just wanted to say Thanks! if you are a reader and I hope you enjoy our blog! Leave me a comment sometime - I'd love to know you've stopped by!

A Groundbreaking Moment

Waddells, Martins, & Laneys sporting our Groundbreaking Moment tees!

This morning our church broke ground on a new's been a long time in the works. We desperately need more space and this was a very exciting day for our church family. We also are celebrating our church's 20th anniversary which makes this time twice as special. We had a special service to honor the anniversary and the groundbreaking was afterwards (or before depending on which service you attended).

We had a unique groundbreaking where every church member is able to take part. We had a plow with 8 ropes attached. Every person there grabbed their rope and pulled at the command and we all "broke ground". What a great way to emphasize that every person there is important! Even the smallest children came out for this.

In the anniversary service, Jake and Ella Kate sang in the large choir that we had, so I have included some pictures of our preschool choir. The preschool, elementary, youth, and adult choirs all sang together which is always a treat!

We went for lunch afterwards with some friends of ours from church and we all looked so cute in our matching shirts that I had to take some pictures - outside Jason's Deli no less!! The kids were all given construction hats that the groundbreaking so the kids are all wearing those.

It was a great day and we are excited to watch this new building go up. Jake and Ella Kate are really excited even though I think they are a little unsure of how this new building is going to get there. They expected to go this morning and see the new building waiting for us. They were disappointed to pull up and not find it!

Check out this link for more pictures of groundbreaking. They were taken by a professional photographer that is in our class, Jason Williamson. Also, I've added some of Jason's photos to my slideshow (and give him all the credit!).

4 am

Very happy for 4 am!

We have been up since 4 am. Yes, I am tired already and it is only 6am now. Ella Kate has this persistent dry, constant cough that has not allowed her to sleep one wink tonight. I finally got up and gave her more meds which did not help and have been up with her ever since. Michael gave up on sleep at about 4:45 or so.

We did have a sweet moment at 4 am to make it better. Jake has never been a baby that appreciated a good "rocking". Jake cried if you rocked him, he cried if you held him, he cried if you sat him down. He just plain cried ALL the time!!!! So, I didn't attempt to rock him because who would want to hold that crying right beside their ear for a long period of time. He usually quieted down the fastest if I just put him in the bed and left him alone. (As a side note, he's still quite ornary!)

Anyway, because of my experience with him, I think I just assumed that the whole rocking thing was overrated. Babies don't really enjoy it, it's just something you see in the movies. I never tried to rock Ella Kate much and she was content either way. My mom did rock her at her house so she always talked about wanting Mimi to rock her. I thought it was just their way of bonding! :)

So, this morning at 4am I did get to snuggle my 2 year old baby and rocked her for the longest time. I so wish I had done this more when she was a baby. But I will have to enjoy it while I can. I know that soon she will be much bigger and not so easy to rock. She is the sweetest little thing in the night I do have to say. It makes it really hard to be upset at losing sleep!

On the bright side, I do have a great glider with no wear on it!!!

We have our church's Groundbreaking and 20th Anniversary service this morning. Hopefully we'll make it through that and then can all come home for a loooong nap!

Yes, you heard me, Jon & Kate are coming. You know, Jon & Kate of "Jon & Kate Plus 8". This is indeed the best news I've heard in a looong time!! I am such a Jon & Kate junkie - I watch their shows over, and over, and over! If you haven't seen them, they are on TLC and have 7 year old twins and 3 year old sextuplets. The daddy is half Korean so the kids are 1/4 Korean and are the most precious things you have ever seen!! They make me want a Korean 2 year old - just because everything under 2 is hard! And this lady is amazing! She is an organized freak but it is awesome!
So in April me and lots of my girlfriends from church will get to go see them speak at a church in Greenville! Sadly they are not bringing their kids, but I'm just happy to see them.
I cannot wait!! We actually waited to blog about it until we had our tickets for sure, since the tickets were limited. That's how badly we want to go!!! I'm just lucky to have friends that are as crazy about them as I am.

Here is their website if you want to see what they are all about...

Having fun Wii style!!

Okay, I have never been one to enjoy video games and I've never even owned a Playstation or Nintendo, but.....I do like the Wii!! We had some friends over Friday night and they brought their Wii - it was a BLAST!! The Martins (well half of them at least - Summer) and the Laneys came over and Tina for a little while.

We had a ball bowling and boxing. The guys tried the tennis and baseball but I didn't get into that as much. Boxing was soooo tiring!! What a workout! Some of the worst pictures are of me and I had to share them. I look like a maniac! :)

We had a great time and the kids had fun playing too!

Snow Day!

Well, the kids really enjoyed the snow...even though Michael ended up having to go into work anyway. We went out early in the morning - around 8:30 and played for a little while. It started raining on us pretty hard so we came back in and kept warm for the rest of the day. We built a teeny little snowman and Jake got to use his carrot and his sticks for arms! I didn't get many good pictures because the kids just weren't in the "cheesing" mood - they were more interested in the snow. Can't blame them!

Let It Snow!

What fun!!! We were at Zaxby's eating tonight with some friends of ours, the Laneys, and when we went to our was snowing!! The kids were really excited!

When we got home we zipped up the coats and had a good time running around in the yard. They went to visit Granny Neal today and she must have told them all about what you do in the snow, because Jake insisted that we needed a big, huge carrot for the snowman we are going to build! He also plans to go to Granny's and throw snowballs with her.

The snow is already starting to cover the ground - how exciting! I think Michael will probably have to work regardless of the weather so that will be sad tomorrow. Maybe it will snow 3 feet and he'll have to stay home!

And we danced

Jake and Ella Kate can be so sweet to each other at times...and then other times they seem to want to kill each other! One thing they like to do is pretend to get married. Not sure where this fascination came from, and they aren't even real sure what it consists of. So, in their little world, when you get married you must stand face to face and hold hands. Then they just kind of stare at each other until one of them comes up with something better to do. It's really entertaining!

Usually Jake has Ella Kate get dressed up in one of her princess dresses and her princess shoes for the "wedding". This has been known to lead to dancing!! Michael caught them on camera dancing the other day - without the dress. I think he was giving them some ideas because Jake was trying to "dip" Ella Kate at one point!!

They are just so precious when they get along. I always try to relish these moments because they are indeed few and far between.

The BIG 3-0

Yes, it's true. I am officially old!!! No offense to those who are already old. :)
Today is my 30th Birthday and so far so good. No meltdowns to speak of.

We celebrated on Saturday shopping with the girls - my mom, my grandma, my sister, and Ella Kate. We then had dinner at Mimi's in Greenville and were joined by my dad's parents, granny & papa. Speaking of...

Happy Birthday Papa!!

I am lucky enough to share my birthday with my papa. I barely made it, coming into the world right before midnight. It is so special to always share this day with him.

Then my dear husband surprised me in Sunday School yesterday morning with a little party, cake, candles and all! I cannot believe that he was able to pull that off without me having a clue. I always said he wasn't sneaky enough for that. Maybe I should be worried?!?

Last night Michael and I dropped the kids off at church (yes, you heard me right and I am so ashamed) and went out for a birthday dinner at the Olive Garden. So, needless to say, I have partied all weekend long. Jake says that my birthday can't be today because I've already had it all weekend. He is actually very jealous and made us put candles on the remainder of my cake and sing to him yesterday!!

Oh, and I have LOTS of cake to be eaten. I still have some left from SS, some left from the ice cream cake my mom bought, and my grandma baked me a chocolate chip pie and a chocolate cake. Wow!!! I'll never eat it all...or maybe I will. :)

Anyway, it's been fun and I guess as everyone else has told me, "It's better than the alternative!" So, happy birthday me!!

Back to Normal

We are just now getting back to normal with our schedule, thank goodness!! The kids were so ready to go back to school on Friday and I was ready to send them. Jake told me every day that he missed Ms. Sophie. They have 3 holidays this month so their schedule will still be a little off.

We had a nice weekend. Michael's sister decided to move on Saturday so we went and helped her pack up and move. She is moving onto the road with his mom and uncles so it will be nice for her to be closer.

We are really working on Ella Kate and her potty skills this week. She has been a pro at pee-peeing in the potty for months now, but....her pooping skills have much to be desired!! She refuses to poop in the potty! There have been a couple of fluke accidents but other than that, we've been cleaning out underwear for months! Needless to say, we are very tired of doing that. I've tried everything...taking away princess panties, embarrassing her by putting her back in diapers, threatening, forcing her to sit there when I know she has to go... Nothing has worked.

This week we are bribing with a new "pink" girlie potty. She had a fit when she saw it at Wal-Mart and promised she would love to put her poop in it. So I got it along with a bag of m&m's for extra reinforcement. Yesterday, she pooped 2 times after we set the potty up (in front of the tv no doubt!). Unfortunately they were both in her panties. But she seems to think that if she can pull her panties off and sit on the potty and let it fall off her heiney into the potty, that counts as pooping in the potty. :( I'm letting it slide for now because she wouldn't even do that before. I guess we're in for another day of "poop parties" in front of the tv!

Any advice on this is welcome and long overdue! :)

Looking Back at 2007

It's that time of year when we all look back at the year behind us and think about what has transpired. And we all take a look at the new year and what we want to see happen in it. I wish I had my digital camera all year so I could do the year in pictures but, unfortunately, I just got it in November. Maybe next year...

2007 with the Waddells

Things have been pretty quiet with the Waddells this year and that is a very good thing! The kids have both been healthy as well as Michael and I. Last year in January I was working with a bookkeeping company and was fortunate enough to be able to quit and stay home in late January. The kids were staying at Ms. Vicky's (a lady down the road who was a godsend!) and I continued cleaning houses one day a week to earn some extra money.
Jake started playing t-ball in March for the very first time. He was 3 years old and really liked it. He had a great coach who Michael went to high school with and he played with lots of other kids in Woodruff whose parents we went to school with as well.

Ella Kate turned 2 in April and we celebrated with an Easter Egg Hunt since her birthday fell on the day before Easter. We invited mostly family and a couple of little friends from Ms. Vicky's.

This was the way Ella Kate smiled for every picture for several months. I think she thought it was cute!! And it was when you're 2! :)

In July Jake turned 4 and we had his first birthday party away from home - it was at Kids Planet playground in Greer. We had lots of fun even though the kids would rather just run wild on the playground than be at a party! I can't blame them - it's an awesome playground!! He got to invite some friends this year, mostly from church.

Jake & Mommy on his 4th birthday

Also in July, Michael's dad turned 60! We had a party at his church for all his family and friends. Sorry, I don't have a picture of it!!

In August the kids started preschool for the very first time. They both attend Anderson Mill Road Early Learning Center (this is at our church). They LOVE it and I was very, very nervous to send them so that was a huge relief! They have loved it from day one. Jake's teacher's name is Ms. Sophie and she is precious! Ella Kate's teacher's name is Ms. Summer and we could not love her more! I am so thankful for this school experience.

First Day of School!

We waited until September this year to have our beach trip - we didn't realize it was so cheap then!! And so un-crowded!! It was lots of fun and the kids both really enjoyed the beach. We went to Ocean Lakes like we usually do and Michael's mom and step-dad and brother all came down at the same time to camp. It was fun to have them all there with us.

Ella Kate loved the sand - especially burying herself

Jake hanging out on the beach

My baby brother turned 16 in September. I cannot believe he is so old. And I am so proud of him! He was also my first blog on his birthday.

In September we also made our yearly trek to either Clemson or Florida to see the Clemson vs. FSU game. My family are all huge Clemson fans while Michael is a huge FSU fan. I prefer Carolina myself. :)
We started last year going to this game with my family and it's been lots of fun. This year was at Clemson and we were able to take Jake with us. It was VERY hot that day!! And we were very close to the sun!! It was a good game although Jake didn't like it as much as we had hoped!

KK, Mimi, Bobby, & Pop

In November, we went to Gatlinburg with our Sunday School class for our yearly trip. It was so much fun!! We look forward to this weekend every year!!

And who could forget probably the highlight of our year???
The Waddells go to New York City!!
Pop and Mimi gave us the trip as a gift to take with them. It was INCREDIBLE. All I can say is that NYC is an experience of a lifetime. I can't wait until I have the chance to go back! Jake will probably always remember bits and pieces of it but I'm sad that Ella Kate probably won't. We'll just have to take her back! :)

Times Square on our last night there, a very, very cold last night!

December was crazy busy!! We were able to spend time with all of our family and had a great Christmas!!

All in all the year was great because it was full of good things and not so many bad. We have enjoyed this year but look forward to the things that 2008 will bring.....

Rhonda will turn 30!!! Shhh!
Jake will turn 5!
Jake will add soccer to his list of sports that he tries.
Ella Kate will start dance.
Stay tuned for what Michael will do... :)
